A Futile Act of Domestication

“The Futile Act of Domestication” is a choreographed circus performance that uses an expressive handstand language to give form to the ambiguous feelings of wanting—and not wanting—to fit into a box, a home, or a norm.

Inspired by Red Zebra’s ‘I Can’t Live in a Living Room’ and ‘Dogville,’ a choreographic interplay emerges from the lines of painter’s tape and our collective imagination, in which a person attempts to domesticate themselves.

The audience surrounds the stage, a simple rectangle with white lines on each side, Bert seems to be floating over the stage
